Wellsboro Bookfest 2016

Wellsboro's Bookfest 2016 has been scheduled! This year, Wellsboro Bookfest will be held Saturday,November 5th at the Deanne Center in Wellsboro Pennsylvania. It will be in the Coolidge theatre, and we'll have even more room than in past years.

We've already signed up two authors, but don't worry, there's lots of room. That's no reason to wait. Have you heard of Bookfest? Bookfest is a celebration of books and reading

It's the best of two worlds... a used library-style used booksale with the proceeds going to the Wellsboro Area School Dictrict library, and a book festival celebrating local & regional authors! All in gorgeous historic Wellsboro, PA.

It's to encourage community literacy; to provide an opportunity for our community members to come together in order to talk about books, writing, reading, publishing and literacy; to raise money for the school library inventories.

It's just $25 dollars a table for authors. Authors sell their own books, and keep all the proceeds. You supply your books and we supply the crowds. Let's make this the best Bookfest ever! Contact From My Shelf Books & Gifts and get signed up today.

The Totally Ninja Raccoons

I own a bookstore, and I wrote a book, but it's not available as an ebook. Amazon is not my friend, and it's not yours.

I published my book, The Totally Ninja Raccoons Meet Bigfoot, through IngramSpark and only made it available as a real book. Your customers won't find it in an electronic version.

Why did I do this? Because I believe in bookstores staffed by lovers of books. I'd rather have real people selling my book to people they feel are the best match for my book.

The Totally Ninja Raccoons Meet Bigfoot is your classic trio with a twist. Think the Three Investigators meet the Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles with a little Ghostbusters in the mix.

Our furry protagonists discover they are not meant to be ordinary bandits, but rather carry the potential to be something extraordinary, ninjas.

In this origin story, the Ninja Raccoons begin their ninja training, and meet their first potential employer--Gypsy the cat. Gypsy sends the Raccoons on their first mission, to capture the elusive Bigfoot.

The Totally Ninja Raccoons Meet Bigfoot is a book I feel confident and comfortable suggesting to 2nd or 3rd graders who love animals, cryptids, and adventure.

The book is available through Ingram for just 5.99 at standard industry discount. It's around 4,000 words. It's been professionally written, illustrated, edited, and approved by professionals in the field of children education.

In the follow-up, The Totally Ninja Raccoons Meet the Weird & Wacky Werewolf, the Ninja Raccoons continue their training, and meet a creature of legend, a werewolf.

The Ninja Raccoons decide to track and capture the werewolf for the prize offered for capturing such a creature. The Raccoons learn that the werewolf isn't as terrifying as the myths, and friends are more important than money.

Thank you for your taking the time to read about The Totally Ninja Raccoons. I hope to start a new trend. Together, we can continue to keep bookstores vibrant and beating in the heart of their communities.

Big Nate: Thunka, Thunka, Thunka

There's never a dull moment with Nate Wright in the picture. Whether getting caught playing table football in the library or raiding the teachers' lounge, Nate's antics are always hilarious and detention worthy
Sixth grade can be a tension convention for Nate Wright. Yup, Nate's up to his ears in stress. Luckily, the perfect remedy is close at hand: an empty plastic soda bottle. All Nate has to do is drum it gently against his head thunka, thunka, thunka -- and the pressures of dealing with Coach John, Mrs. Godfrey, and the terrifying Kim Cressly begin to fade away. Who knew an empty bottle could be so therapeutic? There's only one stress-buster that's better: reading "Big Nate" comics So sit back, relax, and enjoy this latest collection, "Thunka, Thunka, Thunka.

Unicorn vs. Goblins: Another Phoebe and Her Unicorn Adventure

Not every kid skips a rock across a pond and winds up with a unicorn best friend, right? The popular friendship of "Phoebe and Her Unicorn "is back for a third collection of adventures so heavenly they had to be shared.
School's out That means no more teachers, no more books, and lots of time to compliment Marigold Heavenly Nostrils on her good looks. In this third volume, Phoebe and her obligational best friend, Marigold, learn that summer still has plenty of surprises for the both of them. All of our old friends are back Phoebe's part-time frenemy Dakota, upon whom Marigold has bestowed sentient hair, Phoebe's goofy parents, and even Lord Splendid Humility (but please, ignore his magnificence if you can) Have fun as Phoebe and Marigold continue the Phoebegold Detective Agency, spend a week at Wolfgang Music Camp, and find themselves in more misadventures, thanks to Marigold's enchanted sparkles Along the way, Phoebe makes some new friends, such as Sue her unique clarinet-playing bunkmate, Florence Unfortunate Nostrils, Marigold's estranged sister, and Camp Wolfgang's lake monster who enjoys tacos and Wi-Fi. When school resumes, read along as Phoebe enjoys (or suffers from) a brief case of popularity, mentally catalogs her grievances against dodge ball, and, with Marigold's help, rescues Dakota and her hair from the queen of the goblins. Through these wacky adventures, Phoebe and Marigold learn that their friendship is the second most magical thing of all, after Marigold's beauty, of course.
Includes an introduction by Cory Doctorow and his daughter Poesy

The Winter of Our Despair

It was the best of winters; it was the worst of winters. Who am I kidding? It's the winter of our discontent. Winter sucks, and February is the longest short month of the year, and this year it even has an extra day in it. Notice how the presidential election years are always in leap year? That's so they can fit in all the extra BS.

It's the winter of our despair here at From My Shelf Books & Gifts and we are throwing a party. We'll be hosting horror author Patrick Thomas. Everyone knows winter is hell, and several of the author's books take place there.

It will be a hell of a good time. Also get great advice from dark, elder god, Cthulhu. Don't know who he is? Don't wait any longer, come by and find out. Don't worry if you can't pronounce Cthulhu. It wasn't meant to be pronounced by human lips.

We'll also be serving our own special brand of Hellfire chili. All profits go the Second Chance Animal Sanctuary. You must sign a waiver before consuming this spicy western style chili that will kick you in the butt today and tomorrow. Remember, it's for the puppies and kitties, so buy a ticket. It's only 5 bucks.

Wellsboro is also holding it's second Winter Fest to hold the darkness at bay. There won't be any sacrificing of virgins, but there will be ice sculptures and more chili tasting at other places if you like that bland tomato soup with beans some people call chili.

This is all taking place February 20th. So, get out of the house and come to From My Shelf Books meet an author, shake your fist at the heavens, and get some fresh air before the Apocalypse comes to you...

Jimmy Bluefeather

Old Keb Wisting is somewhere around ninety-five years old (he lost count awhile ago) and in constant pain and thinks he wants to die. He also thinks he thinks too much. Part Norwegian and part Tlingit Native ( with some Filipino and Portuguese thrown in ), he's the last living canoe carver in the village of Jinkaat, in Southeast Alaska. When his grandson, James, a promising basketball player, ruins his leg in a logging accident and tells his grandpa that he has nothing left to live for, Old Keb comes alive and finishes his last canoe, with help from his grandson. Together (with a few friends and a crazy but likeable dog named Steve) they embark on a great canoe journey. Suddenly all of Old Keb's senses come into play, so clever and wise in how he reads the currents, tides and storms. Nobody can find him. He and the others paddle deep into wild Alaska, but mostly into the human heart, in a story of adventure, love, and reconciliation. With its rogue's gallery of colorful, endearing, small-town characters, this book stands as a wonderful blend of Mark Twain's THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN and John Nichols's THE MILAGRO BEANFIELD WAR, with dashes of John Steinbeck thrown in.
