KEVIN COOLIDGE BOOK RELEASE PARTY IS THIS FRIDAY, AUGUST 2
Image of Joe Hannon & Huck by John Eaton.
For the past thirteen years, Joe Hannon (shown here), a UPS driver out of the Williamsport hub, has been delivering boxes to From My Shelf Books & Gifts at 7 East Avenue in Wellsboro.
Huck, one of the bookstore's two cats adopted as kittens in 2014, loves Joe and boxes. When Joe finishes stacking them up, Huck sits or lays on top. As they are unpacked, he jumps in.
When Kevin Coolidge, bookstore owner and author, decided to write "Huck & Finn, The Bookstore Cats," he included a scene with Joe and Huck.
Stop in at the release party this Friday, August 2 between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to meet Huck and Finn and, if you know Joe, sign a copy of the book that Coolidge and his wife, Kasey plan to give him when Joe makes his next delivery to From My Shelf Books.

Book Release Party for Huck & Finn
From 5 to 7 p.m. on August 2, Wellsboro's First Friday, From My Shelf Books & Gifts is hosting an author event in the bookstore at 7 East Avenue in Wellsboro.
Featured author will be Kevin Coolidge, who, with his wife Kasey, own From My Shelf Books. Coolidge's newest book, "Huck & Finn, Bookstore Cats," will be available for purchase. Coolidge will autograph copies. Those who attend will also get to meet Huck and Finn and talk to Coolidge about the book.
In March of 2014, Coolidge and his wife adopted Huck and Finn as kittens from Animal Care Sanctuary in Wellsboro. They are from the same litter. Huck is a black and white tuxedo cat. His brother Finn is all black. They were named for the main character in Mark Twain's novel, "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."
"Our first bookstore cat was an orange tabby named Hobo," said Coolidge. He wrote a picture book about Hobo that is still popular with children today. "Hobo was our bookstore cat from 2006 to 2014," said Coolidge. "After he passed away, we adopted Huck and Finn."
The two bookstore cats are also included in "Bookstore Cats" written by Brandon Schultz and published in September of 2017. Huck and Finn are also characters in the "Totally Ninja Raccoon" series written by Coolidge for second to fourth grade reluctant readers. The first book in the series was published on Dec. 11, 2015 and the eighth on July 6, 2018. The cats appear in six of the eight.
"When Huck and Finn decided they wanted their own picture book, I wrote one for them," said Coolidge. "Stephanie Webb did the illustrations for it. She did a terrific job illustrating 'Molly, the Dog with Diabetes,' a true story I wrote about our neighbors' dachshund mix and her journey with diabetes. The artwork Stephanie did for both books is beautiful," Coolidge said.
For more information, call From My Shelf Books at 570-724-5793.
Author Kevin Coolidge (standing) will be available to talk about his most recent book "Huck & Finn, Bookstore Cats" during a special event at From My Shelf Books in Wellsboro. Those who attend will meet the all black Finn (shown left) and his brother, black and white Huck.

Wellsboro Pennsylvania Has One of America's Best UPS Drivers!
Thirteen is my lucky number. I've been a part of From My Shelf Books & Gifts for 13 years, and I just recently published my 13th book. The book is called "Huck & Finn, The Bookstore Cats"
It's a children's picture book about a day in the life of our bookstore cats, Huck and Finn. We get UPS deliveries Monday through Friday and most of those days over the last 13 years it's been Joe Hannon.
Our cat Huck loves boxes. Most cats do. One of Huck's jobs is to sit on the boxes and help un-pack. He often comes running when Joe delivers, and he hops right on top of the boxes.
I decided to put a scene in with Joe and Huck. I asked Joe first and took his photo with his permission for the book illustrator to work with. I feel it captures the spirit of their interaction.
Joe has always been a great UPS driver, cheerful and hard-working. If he is on another route or on vacation, I notice. It's not that the other drivers aren't good at their job. It's just that Joe has that something extra.
Joe is out of the Williamsport Pennsylvania hub, but he delivers all over Tioga County, but mostly Wellsboro and the businesses of Wellsboro. When I posted this image of Joe and Huck to social media, it went viral locally. People just love Joe.
Help make Joe as well-known as he should be. If you see Joe, tell him you've seen his book, or buy a copy and have Joe sign his page if you are on his route. If you love cats, books, bookstores, or Joe the UPS guy, you are going to love this book!

Huck & Finn , Bookstore Cats
Hello Tall Cats
I am Huck. I am a bookstore cat. I am the cat at From My Shelf Books. My brother Finn also is a bookstore cat, but he mostly sleeps. You might have seen us in "Bookstore Cats" by Brandon Schultz. I'm the handsome one.
We now have our own book called "Huck & Finn, Bookstore Cats"( ISBN: 9781646339952) Notice how I come first? Anyway, it's a great book.
The book retails for 8.99 and you can get an autographed copy here. It's available wherever books are sold. If your local bookstore doesn't have it in stock, they can order it.
It's a children's picture book, but it's sure to be a hit with lovers of cats and books and bookstores.
OK, I have to shelve these books and take my cat nap.
Thanks
Huck, the Cat at From My Shelf Books & Gifts

All Caught Up On Stranger Things?
Have you binge-watched all of Season Three? Need something else? You can read "Operation Ragnarok"
I published "Operation Ragnarok" just after season one dropped. Of course, it had already been written. It reads like the kids of Stranger Things has grown up...well, almost.
Operation Ragnarok is a fantastical adventure with comedic elements about a group of gamers going through a mid-life crisis, instead of the little red corvette, they decide to steal a Viking longship from a museum. It's a story of friendship, sacrifice, and unleashing Hel on Earth...
Operation Ragnarok, think Night at the Museum meets The Vikings with a touch of Stand by Me vibe. Great for those who love mythology, gaming, and geek culture, but not needed to enjoy this fast-paced tale, also suggested for teens who grew up loving Percy Jackson, the book is PG-16, no graphic violence and no sex, some sexual innuendo and a few curse words.
Operation Ragnarok ISBN 9780692760635 is available at From My Shelf Books & Gifts, your favorite bookstore, and wherever books are sold. Also available in international markets with an Ebook coming near the end of August.
Advance Praise for Operation Ragnarok
Operation Ragnarok is a face-paced, irreverent nerdfest with laugh out loud dialogue, like Big Bang Theory on steroids. Suspend your disbelief and enjoy! --Dana Fredsti, author of the Ashley Parker Plague Town series
"Hoist your geek flag with Operation Ragnarok, And remember to always bring your claymore with you when robbing a museum or trying to save the world!" --Patrick Thomas, author of the Murphy's Lore series and the Dear Cthulhu advice columns and books
"Let's face it; there's a little hell raising Norseman in all of us. So top off your drinking horn, shoulder your trusty Claymore, and board your very own Viking longship. Kevin J. Coolidge's "Operation Ragnarok" is about to set sail. Who says geeks and gamers can't save the world?" -- Max Hawthorne , author of the bestselling Kronos Rising series.
If you're a fan of Norse mythology, pop culture, action and humor this is the book for you! Operation Ragnarok is a wild romp of a read. --V.L. Locey, romance author and mythology aficionado
"A Dungeons and Dragons adventure comes alive with good friends and a hero who loves books!" -Ann Myers, mystery author of Bread of the Dead.
Just Click on the Viking longship to be taken to a link to buy the book!

Author Event with Brooklyn James! 12-2pm Sunday
From My Shelf Books hosts Brooklyn James, Twin Tiers native and author of the birth memoir Born in the Bed You Were Made: One Family’s Journey from Cesarean to Home Birth, for a book signing on Sunday, July 7th from 12-2pm at 7 East Avenue, Suite 101, Wellsboro.
The memoir heralds accessibility, choice, and human rights in childbirth.
As a postpartum nurse, induction, intervention, ultimately cesarean were nothing new to Brooklyn…until she was the one atop an operating room table birthing her firstborn through an incision in her uterus. Coming to terms with the medicalized birth, she undergoes several unexpected health issues—fallout from a medically unnecessary cesarean, secondary infertility, miscarriage.
So then begins her exploration of evidence-based and patient-centered maternity care, of all that is and all that can be in birth. The impetus for penning her own, it was women’s birth stories that informed and inspired Brooklyn to go beyond What To Expect and to discover what she expects from birth.
With this clear expectation and with the support of a sagacious midwife, Brooklyn and her family—to include her firstborn who took an eager role in cutting the umbilical cord—experienced the adventure of a lifetime in birthing their second born in the comforts of home and in the bed he was made.
“Like many women, I did not have access to any other birth but a hospital birth,” Brooklyn said. “My insurance provider would not cover home birth or birthing center birth, both of which were more desirable to me. Insured through the hospital in which I worked, my birthing options were further limited to that hospital system. A system that had yet to integrate midwifery, in the rather progressive city of Austin, Texas, nonetheless, where competing hospitals had.
“After some school-of-hard-knocks education, that was the first thing I did in shoring up any future birthing rights. I found a healthcare sharing ministry—not exactly insurance, exempt from the ‘individual mandate requirement,’ but has a similar system of premiums and deductibles only in different verbiage—that covers any birth of my choosing.
“Without awareness of, reflection upon, a conscious mulling over of these rights, birth became something that happened to me. It wasn’t until I approached birth as a right that it became a rite, an experience, more than a medical event. Even if medical care is part of a birth, birth is a profound rite of passage and should be treated as such. How different our birth experiences would be if they were not herded by insurance, liability, money, the clock, and the systematic approach, but by practices that safely nurture the human right to choose the circumstances of birth.
“Some insurance companies, and individuals, view home birth as ‘medically inappropriate’—unsuitable, risky, subpar to hospital birth—when the fact is there is no such thing as ‘risk-free birth’ in any setting. I was a ‘healthy, low-risk patient’ who endured nearly every intervention on the menu, ultimately a medically unnecessary cesarean in a hospital yet found complete shelter and efficacy in a home birth after cesarean (HBAC).
“No birth is more superior to another. I care not how anyone births. I do care that everyone has accessibility and choice, and that everyone is supported in their right to birth however, wherever, and with whomever they so choose.”
