KEVIN COOLIDGE RELEASES TWO NEW BOOKS IN HIS TOTALLY NINJA RACCOON SERIES

The eighth book in Kevin Coolidge's "Totally Ninja Raccoon" series for second to fourth graders who are reluctant readers is now available at From My Shelf Books & Gifts at 7 East Avenue in Wellsboro. It was published on July 6th 2018.

"The Totally Ninja Raccoons Meet the Jersey Devil" takes place in Tioga County on the Pine Creek Rail Trail. The raccoons learn tracking skills, and meet a creature from New Jersey folklore, the Jersey Devil.

The first six books are set in Wellsboro and Tioga County, Pa. Coolidge began his series with “The Totally Ninja Raccoons Meet Bigfoot,” released on Dec. 11, 2015. It is about three raccoon brothers who become ninjas. “This series is for the 7 to 10-year-old reluctant reader who loves action, adventure and creatures whose existence has yet to be proven, like Bigfoot,” said Coolidge.

In each book, the ninja raccoons learn important life lessons. In the first, the raccoons discover they are not meant to be ordinary bandits, but rather have the potential to be something extraordinary--ninjas. They begin their ninja training and meet their first potential employer--Gypsy the Cat who sends them on their first mission, to capture the elusive Bigfoot. During their adventures, the raccoon brothers learn the importance of choosing their own path.

In the second book, the raccoons meet the “Weird & Wacky Werewolf;” in the third, they learn “The Secret of the Canyon,” in the fourth, meet “The Thunderbird,” in the fifth are involved in “The Catmas Caper” and in the sixth, learn the “Secret of Nessmuk Lake." The next four books were released between March 1 and Oct. 26, 2016 and the sixth on May 2 of 2017.

The seventh book in the series, "The Totally Ninja Raccoons Meet the Little Green Men,” takes place at Cherry Springs State Park, near Galeton in Potter County during the Perseid Meteor Shower in August. It was released in October of 2017. As the raccoon brothers continue their ninja training, they learn the power of forgiveness, and meet creatures from out of this world - aliens. The Cat Board plots against the raccoons as they explore the park. Will the cats trash the raccoons? Will the little green men find the perfect pet? Will Rascal make French toast?

During the day, Coolidge can be found at From My Shelf Books & Gifts, an independent bookstore he runs with his wife, several helpful employees, and two friendly black and white cats, Huck and Finn. He is there after hours, too, writing. Coolidge is working on his ninth Totally Ninja Raccoons book now.

Signed, personalized copies of all books in the series are available at From My Shelf Books & Gifts in Wellsboro. For more information about this series, call 570-724-5793.

"MOLLY, THE DOG WITH DIABETES" BOOK RELEASE PARTY IS AUG. 3

Stop in to meet Sue Powers and Molly at the August 3 book release party.

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3, Wellsboro’s First Friday, a book release party for “Molly, The Dog with Diabetes" is being held at From My Shelf Books & Gifts at 7 East Avenue in Wellsboro.

Written by Kevin Coolidge, this book is for children and their families. Those who attend will be able to meet Molly, the star of the new book and her human, Sue Powers, who suggested the idea to Coolidge. Powers and Coolidge both reside in Wellsboro and are neighbors.

Molly, a seven-year-old dachshund mix, was diagnosed with diabetes four years ago at Christmastime.

“I felt that writing about what a dog with diabetes goes through would show children they can live a normal life if they take care of themselves,” Powers said. “Kevin and I began chatting about the parallels between diabetic dogs and people. I told him that Molly goes on vacation with us and has children and dogs that come to play with her. He talked about ideas he had. We both began to get really excited about this book," said Powers.

“It’s a feel good book about how happy and healthy Molly is as she lives with diabetes," said Coolidge.

For more information about this book or the party, call the bookstore at 570-724-5793.
