What is a Scottish Fold?

The Scottish Fold is a special breed of cat. They have a unique folded ear that makes them easy to spot. The Scottish fold is a blend of other breeds: The British and American shorthairs.

The first Scottish Fold was found on a farm in Scotland in 1961. Her name was Susie. She had white fur. A man named William Ross adopted one of her kittens, and named it Snooks. The kitten also shared the folded ear trait.

Snooks had kittens, and the trait proved dominant. Her kittens were born with folded ears. These kittens were called lop-eared cats, but later named Scottish Folds for the country they came from, Scotland.

The Totally Ninja Raccoons Are Available at the Green Free Library!!

I was a voracious reader as a child. My parents couldn't have kept me and my sisters supplied with reading materials. I received books for Christmas, and Easter and my birthday. I spent my allowance on books, but it was my local library, The Green Free Library in Wellsboro Pennsylvania, that filled the rest of the need.

I'm happy to announce that the Green Free Library now has the first five books in the Totally Ninja Raccoon series. Your child can now check them out and see just how fun they are. People started asking for them, and the library responded.

If your library or school doesn't have the Totally Ninja Raccoons, just ask. They are available from the usual sources for libraries. I'm starting to do more library and school events, and would love to visit your local library or school. Just contact me at From My Shelf Books & Gifts at 570-724-5793 and we'll get started.

Emu. Emus as Pets. Emus Keeping, Care, Housing, Interaction, Diet and Health

Emus have been raised as pets for several years mostly because of their lean meat. There are several things about the Emu that make them the most adorable pets to have at home. They are wonderfully friendly and can even be very playful around the people that they have bonded with. The gait of these birds and the "goofy"expression that they carry all the time makes them a lot of fun to be around. Of course, you need to be extremely cautious while raising Emus as they are really large birds that can become unruly and dangerous when not raised to be tame. When they are larger, there are several restrictions with respect to the space and the area that you can raise these birds in. However, if you raise emus as babies, you will see that they are just as great as any other household pet that climbs up into your lap, hides in small spaces in your home and just keep you entertained all day. This book is the best guide for anyone who is setting out on their journey with their Emus. It will provide you with all the information that you require from sourcing your bird, housing them and even providing them with proper nutrition and care. The information that you will find in this book has been tested by emu owners. Therefore all the tips that you will read about are practical and easy. Covered in this book: -Behavior -Bonding -Buying -Caring -Diet -Feeding -Handling -Healthcare -Housing -Legal considerations -Routine care -The history and origin of the species -Travelling ....and much more

About the Totally Ninja Raccoons and Kevin Too!

We all know that cats want to take over the world. What? You didn't know that? If you have a furry feline in your life, you know they are planning on world domination...right after their nap.

Yes, cats are planning world domination. There's even an international organization known as the Cat Board that is planning right now as you are reading this. Lucky for humans, cats are a little lazy.

That's where the Totally Ninja Raccoons come in. These little masked bandits decided they aren't meant to be ordinary, but chose to be something more, ninjas!

The Totally Ninja Raccoons are your basic heroes for hire. They work cheap, sometimes for a little Chinese takeout or a stale doughnut.

It's your classic trio with a twist. Think the Three Investigators meet the Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles with a little Ghost Busters in the mix.

What started as an idea to score free food soon ends up giving the raccoons a glimpse into another world, a world of shadows, mysteries, and plots.

There are things in heaven and earth than the raccoons ever dreamed. Cats are trying to take over the world. Monsters are real, and Chinese food really will make you hungry soon after you eat it. It's up to The Totally Ninja Raccoons to stop it.

The Totally Ninja Raccoons Are:

Rascal: He's the shortest brother and loves doughnuts. He's great with his paws and makes really cool gadgets. He's a little goofy and loves both his brothers, even when they pick on him, but maybe not right then.

Bandit: He's the oldest brother. He's tall and lean. He's super smart and loves to read. He leads the Totally Ninja Raccoons, but he couldn't do it by himself.

Kevin: He may be the middle brother, but he refuses to be stuck in the middle. He has the moves and the street smarts that the Totally Ninja Raccoons are going to need, even if it does sometimes gets them into trouble as well as out of trouble.

I chose to only make it available as a real book. You won't find it in an electronic version. Why did I do this? Studies have shown that students retain more information when reading from paper.

I believe that reading is more than a chore. It's an tactile experience... I also believe in bookstores staffed by lovers of books. I'd rather have real people selling real books to people that are the best match for that book.

I specifically picked the second to fourth grade age, because of my experience in the bookstore. If a child doesn't embrace reading during this crucial age, a child can fall behind their peers, and struggle into their teen years and beyond. My goal is to entertain and engage young readers.

The Totally Ninja Raccoons Meet Bigfoot ( Totally Ninja Raccoons #01 )

In The Totally Ninja Raccoons meet Bigfoot, our protagonists discover they are not meant to be ordinary bandits, but rather carry the potential to be something extraordinary, ninjas.

In this origin story, the Ninja Raccoons begin their ninja training, and meet their first potential employer--Gypsy the Cat. Gypsy sends the Raccoons on their first mission, to capture the elusive Bigfoot.

Things aren't what they seem to be. Bigfoot isn't the monstrous beast, as he's been portrayed. Gypsy isn't the benign employer. Cats want to take over the world.

The Totally Ninja Raccoons learn that sometimes you have to choose your own path if you want to choose your destination.

The Totally Ninja Raccoons Meet the Weird & Wacky Werewolf ( Totally Ninja Raccoons #2 )

In The Totally Ninja Raccoons Meet the Weird & Wacky Werewolf, the Ninja Raccoons continue their ninja training, learn teamwork, and meet a creature of legend, a werewolf.

The Ninja Raccoons decide to track and catch the werewolf for the prize offered for capturing such a creature. Will the Raccoons succeed in their mission? Are friends more important than money? Do werewolves taste good with hot sauce?

There are more things in heaven and earth than these three brothers ever dreamed. Cats are trying to take over the world; monsters are real; and Chinese food really will make you hungry soon after you eat it. It's up to the Ninja Raccoons to do something about it.

The Totally Ninja Raccoons and the Secret of the Canyon ( Totally Ninja Raccoons #3 )

In The Totally Ninja Raccoons and the Secret of the Canyon, the Ninja Raccoons continue their ninja training, learn compassion, and meet a creature of Pennsylvania Folklore, a Sidehill gouger.

The Ninja Raccoons investigate the legend of the crying baby. Will the Raccoons discover the secret of the canyon? Can the Cat Board stop the Raccoons? What did Raccoons eat before there was tasty General Tso's Chicken?

There are more things in heaven and earth than these three brothers ever dreamed. Cats are trying to take over the world; monsters are real; and Chinese food really will make you hungry soon after you eat it. It's up to the Ninja Raccoons to do something about it.

The Totally Ninja Raccoons Meet the Thunderbird ( Totally Ninja Raccoons #4 )

In The Totally Ninja Raccoons Meet the Thunderbird, the Ninja Raccoons continue their ninja training, learn the value of friendship, and meet a creature of Native American myth, a thunderbird.

The Ninja Raccoons are framed for the theft of the Wynken, Blynken, and Nod statue. Will the Raccoons prove their innocence? Will the Raccoons return to Animal Land? Will the Cat Board triumph? Will Rascal ever learn to swim?

There are more things in heaven and earth than these three brothers ever dreamed. Cats are trying to take over the world; monsters are real; and Chinese food really will make you hungry soon after you eat it. It's up to the Ninja Raccoons to do something about it.

The Totally Ninja Raccoons and the Catmas Caper (Totally Ninja Raccoons #5)

In The Totally Ninja Raccoons and The Catmas Caper, the Ninja Raccoons continue their ninja training, learn the true meaning of Christmas and meet a creature of Germanic myth, Krampus!

In this super-special Christmas edition, the infamous Cat Board is once again plotting against the Totally Ninja Raccoons and plans to eliminate Christmas! Will the Totally Ninja Raccoons be able to stop the Cat Board and save Christmas?

There are more things in heaven and earth than these three brothers ever dreamed. Cats are trying to take over the world; monsters are real; and Chinese food really will make you hungry soon after you eat it. It's up to the Ninja Raccoons to do something about it.

In The Totally Ninja Raccoons and The Secret of Nessmuk Lake, the Ninja Raccoons continue their ninja training, learn to respect privacy, and meet a creature of Scottish legend, The Loch Ness Monster!

The Cat Board plots against the Ninja Raccons as the Raccoons explore the depths of Lake Nessmuk. Will the Raccoons learn the secret? Will the Cat Board triumph? Will Rascal finally learn to swim?

There are more things in heaven and earth than these three brothers ever dreamed. Cats are trying to take over the world; monsters are real; and Chinese food really will make you hungry soon after you eat it. It's up to the Ninja Raccoons to do something about it.

I Came Home, But It Wasn't Me: Memoirs of Vietnam Combat Veteran

Today April 8th, 20117 from 11AM to 2PM, From My Shelf Books is hosting Bruce Taneski and his memoir of the Vietnam War, I Came Home, but It Wasn't Me. Bruce made it home, but returned a damaged man.

The memoir comes full circle when he sits on his pack and eats a can of C-Ration spaghetti and meatballs while looking down at one of the two NVA soldiers he had shot dead a few minutes earlier. “Don’t mean nothing,” he thought. However, deep down inside, he knew it did.

Taneski explains everything in detail, down to the nuts and bolts of his P-38 can opener. At times, he writes with the innocence of a young man seeing the world for the first time. He shares the teachings of his sergeants, which Taneski took to heart to succeed in Vietnam. Much of this true story describes, “many of the mundane missions we went on,” which involved “just humping through the jungle fighting the red ants, leeches and mosquitoes.”

Taneski’s year peaked with two major operations. The first was the 199th’s final six-day sweep before returning to Fort Benning. The operation captured thirty-three NVA, while destroying an enemy hospital, training camp, and five hamlets. The second was a 5th Infantry Division engagement against a new NVA base camp near the DMZ, where Taneski finished his last month’s in country. His book clearly tells who Bruce Taneski is and why.

Bruce was intially diagnosed with PTSD in 1982, years after the war was over, but not his personal battle. He still struggles with PTSD, and this memoir was part of his path to healing. Come in and talk with Bruce and let him know how glad you are he made it home. Visit and show your support of our veterans, past and present.

DEANE LITTLE BEANS EVENT APRIL 19TH!

On Wednesday, April 19, at 10 a.m. the Deane Center for the Performing Arts is hosting a Deane Little Beans event for youth 12 and under and their parents. It is free and free snacks will be provided.

Author Kevin Coolidge will be reading "The Totally Ninja Raccoons Meet Bigfoot" to children in the Deane Center lobby at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro. The book is written for youngsters and enjoyed by people of all ages. Preschoolers from the Wellsboro Montessori Children's Center are planning to walk to the Deane Center for the program, weather permitting.

Last year, Kevin Coolidge published the first two books in his new series, “Totally Ninja Raccoons” set in Wellsboro and Tioga County. "The Totally Ninja Raccoons Meet Bigfoot" is the first book in his series about the three raccoon brothers who become ninjas. “The series is for the 7-10-year-old reluctant reader who loves action, adventure and creatures whose existence has yet to be proven, like Bigfoot,” said Coolidge.

In "The Totally Ninja Raccoons meet Bigfoot," the raccoons discover they are not meant to be ordinary bandits, but rather have the potential to be something extraordinary--ninjas. They begin their ninja training and meet their first potential employer--Gypsy the Cat.

Gypsy sends the raccoons on their first mission, to capture the elusive Bigfoot. They quickly find out that things aren't what they seem. Bigfoot isn't the monstrous beast, he's been portrayed to be; Gypsy isn't a benign employer; and cats want to take over the world. And the raccoons learn that sometimes you have to choose your own path if you want to choose your destination.

"The Totally Ninja Raccoons" is a new children's series for second to fourth graders. It is specifically for reluctant readers. "Five books have been published in the series with more to come," Coolidge said.

In the second book, the raccoons meet the “Weird & Wacky Werewolf." In the third, they learn "The Secret of the Canyon" and in the fourth, meet "The Thunderbird," In the fifth book "Catmas Caper" the raccoons have to save Christmas, and in the book coming out in May, the Ninja Raccoons learn the secret of Nessmuk Lake.

In his ninja raccoon series, Coolidge has included the bookstore’s newest cats - brothers Huck and Finn. These cats receive daily doses of love from the many children and adults who visit the bookstore he co-owns at 7 East Avenue in Wellsboro.

For more information or to register for this Deane Little Beans program, call the Deane Center at 570-724-6220.

Kevin Coolidge (shown) places a colorful, kid-friendly "Story Monsters Approved" seal on the cover of the book he wrote, "The Totally Ninja Raccoons Meet Bigfoot." It passed rigorous judging by industry experts and a panel of youth who endorsed it. Children who see the seal on a book know that youngsters their own age enjoyed it and are recommending they read it, too.

Samurai Rising: The Epic Life of Minamoto Yoshitsune

Minamoto Yoshitsune should not have been a samurai. But his story is legend in this real-life saga.
This epic warrior tale reads like a novel, but this is the true story of the greatest samurai in Japanese history.
When Yoshitsune was just a baby, his father went to war with a rival samurai family--and lost. His father was killed, his mother captured, and his surviving half-brother banished. Yoshitsune was sent away to live in a monastery. Skinny, small, and unskilled in the warrior arts, he nevertheless escaped and learned the ways of the samurai. When the time came for the Minamoto clan to rise up against their enemies, Yoshitsune answered the call. His daring feats and impossible bravery earned him immortality.

Book Giveaway for the Totally Ninja Raccoons Meet Bigfoot!

The book that started it all, "The Totally Ninja Raccoons Meet Bigfoot" is now Story Monster Approved! It's the first book in the Totally Ninja Raccoon series, and you can win a FREE, autographed copy.

In "The Totally Ninja Raccoons meet Bigfoot", our protagonists discover they are not meant to be ordinary bandits, but rather carry the potential to be something extraordinary, ninjas.

Cats are trying to take over the world. Monsters are real, and Chinese food really will make you hungry soon after you eat it. It's up to The Totally Ninja Raccoons to stop it.

The Totally Ninja Raccoons is a series geared towards young readers from six to ten years old, especially reluctant readers.

This is the age that children start falling behind peers if they aren't excited about reading.

It's vitally important that an aspiring reader enjoys what they are reading, and what child doesn't enjoy raccoons, cats, ninjas, Chinese food, and of course...Bigfoot!
