Pennsylvania Wine: A History



Since the time of William Penn, wine has been a part of Pennsylvania's economy and culture. The first successful vineyard in the United States was founded in the Keystone State in 1787, and innovations continued to come out of the state with the discovery of the Alexander grape. Apart from the interruption of Prohibition, there are some families in the wine industry with vineyard histories stretching back to the nineteenth century.A History of Pennsylvania Wine traces the wine industry in the state from its earliest history up to the present day, and it also explores the various regions and wineries.
