Bad Little Children's Books: Kidlit Parodies, Shameless Spoofs, and Offensively Tweaked Covers
Born in 1923, Arthur C. Gackley is the creator of many children s books, none of which were ever actually published. Mysterious and hermetic by nature, he spent his life living and working in a small New England village, but was likely washed out to sea in the winter of 1962 or possibly fell penniless into an abandoned wishing well shaft around 1978. No body was ever found."

Do You Want to Know a Secret?
Do you want to know secret? Of course you do! It's in our human nature. I confess. I published my first novella, and it's self-published.
Self-published can be a dirty word, but it doesn't have to be. Lewis Carroll self-published Alice in Wonderland. Charles Dickens self-published A Christmas Carol. I self-published Operation Ragnarok.
Operation Ragnarok, however, is not the work of one writer. I tested the drafts with beta readers, the manuscript was professionally edited, and a talented artist illustrated my cover. I started a Kickstarter that was funded by readers who were intrigued by the premise. It's not the work of one man, and now I need your help for the next step.
I have an ambitious goal for Operation Ragnarok, and you could chose to be a part of that. I want to pull a Martian. What's that? The Martian by Andy Weir started off as a series of self-published chapters on his blog.
He decided to self-publish a manuscript and events snow-balled from there. It was picked up by a publisher, made into a movie directed by Ridley Scott, and starred Matt Damon. The movie was successful both financially and critically. It's every author's dream. Well, it's my dream.
I'd like to see Operation Ragnarok on the big screen. I've already seen it. It's great. I conceived the story as a movie, and wrote it as a screenplay, but what do you do with a completed screenplay? Nothing if you aren't lucky or connected.
I put it away in a desk drawer and let it sit. I've always wanted to write a novel, and so I turned my own screenplay into a novella. I drafted and re-drafted, had the manuscript edited, asked some better writers than myself for a review quote, and had it published.
It's now available. It's not perfect, but it's a solid first novel that is as good as many books out there. I was given feedback by more experienced writers, some I could take, and some will have to wait for my next writing adventure, but the finished product is entertaining and damn funny.
Operation Ragnarok is a fantastical adventure with comedic elements about a group of Dungeon & Dragons players that are going through the mid-life crisis. Instead of the stereotypical, little red corvette, they decide to steal a Viking longship from a museum, and accidentally unleash Ragnarok. It's a story of friendship, sacrifice, and unleashing Hel on Earth...
Operation Ragnarok, think Night at the Museum meets The Big Bang Theory with a touch of Stand by Me vibe. Great for those who love mythology, gaming, and geek culture, but not needed to enjoy this fast-paced tale. It's an amusing concept and would make a lively change from the sequels and re-boots Hollywood has been serving the public.
I can't do it by myself. I need readers to help put Operation Ragnarok on the radar of the entertainment industry. You can make it happen by purchasing the book, telling friends about the book, and sharing this blog post.
It's not expensive. The book retails for $9.99, but you can buy it for $7.99 at From My Shelf Books & Gifts either on the website, or at the store. You can order it from your favorite book store, or you can order it from where ever you usually get your books. It's even available digitally on Kindle, Nook, Kobo and Apple products. It's also available internationally. You can be part of the crew that gets Operation Ragnarok to the big screen.
I always say: If you are going to dream, shoot for the stars, that way if you fail, you'll be in the cold vacuum of space and no one will hear you scream...

Operation Ragnarok
We are all just killing time, until time eventually kills us. We go through life knowing death is waiting, but not knowing what comes next. I don't have to wonder anymore, because I died...
The sages say, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Mine started with just a single click. This is an epic tale full of danger, adventure, friends, and a wolf the size of a bull moose, and it all started on my living room couch.

Yuge!: 30 Years of Doonesbury on Trump
Doonesbury is one of the most overrated strips out there. Mediocre at best.
--Donald Trump, 1989
He tried to warn us. Ever since the release of the first Trump-for-President trial balloon in 1987, Doonesbury's Garry Trudeau has tirelessly tracked and highlighted the unsavory career of the most unqualified candidate to ever aspire to the White House. It's all there--the hilarious narcissism, the schoolyard bullying, the loathsome misogyny, the breathtaking ignorance; and a good portion of the Doonesbury cast has been tangled up in it. Join Duke, Honey, Earl, J.J., Mike, Mark, Roland, Boopsie, B.D., Sal, Alice, Elmont, Sid, Zonker, Sam, Bernie, Rev. Sloan, and even the Red Rascal as they cross storylines with the big, orange airhorn who's giving the GOP such fits.
Garry Trudeau is the sleazeball third-rate talent who draws the overrated comic strip Doonesbury, which very few people read. He lives in New York City with his wife Jane Pauley, who has far more talent than he has.
About the Author
G. B. Trudeau has been drawing his Pulitzer Prize-winning comic strip for more than forty years. In addition to cartooning, Trudeau has worked in theater, film, and television. He also has been a contributing columnist for the "New York Times "op-ed page and later an essayist for "Time "magazine. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. He lives in New York City with his wife, Jane Pauley. They have three grown children.
Trudeau maintains a vivid online presence at www.doonesbury.com and offers deployed troops a forum via his milblog The Sandbox.
