BookFest 2016 author: Baiba Kreger

Wellsboro's BookFest 2016: coming up soon! Join us Saturday, November 5th at the Deane Center, in welcoming 20+ local and regional authors, including Baiba Kreger, who was been with us for EVERY BookFest for the last 8 years! She is always engaging, approachable, and interesting to talk to, especially since she brings native folk costumes from Latvia for her own personal "show and tell", which is not usual since Baiba worked as an educator for the entire length of her career. She earned her Ph.D. in curriculum design from the University of Pittsburgh.

Baiba is the author of the memoir, My Heritage, My Destiny. As a young girl, Baiba and her family struggled to get out of war-torn Latvia, and to begin a new life as immigrants in America. She writes about her belief in hard work and education as the way to succeed in her new country. When she later had the chance to return to Latvia, she realized just how blessed she had been to leave, and how much the Latvians have suffered between WWII and the recent era.

She has three grown children and seven grandchildren. In her retirement, she lives in Liberty, PA, with her two cats, Cinnamon and Furby. She travels and writes regular columns for the local newspapers.
